When I look out into my classroom, I see great potential that is in need of opportunity and experiences. My school is nestled in a poverty-stricken city that is in crisis. To look at my students, however, you wouldn't know this. Their resilience has made many of them my heroes and their thirst for knowledge has made me a better teacher. As a school, we are committed to changing the narrative of our community by helping our students understand that their present circumstances don't dictate future outcomes. Due to limited resources, many of my students lack hands-on science experiences. The more my students are able to feel, touch, and build, the more they will discover, investigate, learn, and wonder. Giving them hands-on learning opportunities will undoubtedly make the learning more meaningful and could ignite in some a genuine passion for all things scientific.
