Many of my students come to me from low income families. Single parents are raising most of our students. Ten percent of my students live with a grandparent or a foster parent due to their parents being unfit. Most of my students are on free and reduced lunch. I try to be an emotional support to as many of my students as I can. I provide supplies to many of my students because they just don't have the money for school supplies. They come to me without many of the skills they need for 7th grade. Around 60% of my students are below grade level. This is as a result of many of them attending different schools throughout their education. I am in a transient district, which adds to the struggles of the students who move around a lot. In order to catch my students up to grade level I have to help them work on fluency and skills from lower grades.
