We have 20 children in the AM and 20 children in the PM with special needs ranging in age from 3 to 5 years old. Our free and reduced meal ratio is over 70%. We start with a meal to make sure hunger doesn't interfere in their learning. Some have few toys, books, or opportunities to interact with good peer models. I have a personal library of books and they may borrow them to take home. We are trying to provide opportunities in small groups with teacher guidance for appropriate peer play and communication. The emphasis in class is learning through play to increase their speech, language, and social interaction skills. Our children learn best with hands-on experiences.
