Although I'm a Social Studies teacher for grades 7-11, I am also the Reading Intervention Specialist. We have silent sustained reading and read-out-loud time in each Social Studies class, as well as in my reading intervention class. When students read consistently on a daily basis, their literacy competencies increase. This classroom library foundation will help immensely, both in my Social Studies classes and reading score improvement. My classroom does not have even one set of books for reading together as a class. Each book requested has been carefully chosen, reviewed for appropriate Lexile scores, and covers a specific period of history.
