The children who make up my school are mostly African American or Hispanic. A large majority of the students are English Language Learners or English as a Second Language. A large percentage of the students have free or reduced lunch and the meals they receive at school are the only meals they get. Students come to school to have a safe place and to learn the true meaning of education. Many students struggle to meet grade level expectations. However, there are students who will meet or exceed their expected level of growth. Teachers deal with many different types of behaviors on a daily basis, and have been flexible enough to constantly change teaching in order to increase student motivation to learn. Many students need to be engaged in their learning in order to be successful. A simple desk and worksheet does not work. Movement, technology and integration have been successful ways in the fight to student success. Each student at this school is unique in their own way.
