My students come from diverse backgrounds where English may be their second language. More than half of our students are considered low-income. Several of my students do not have parents at home to help them with reading, writing, and math skills due to language barriers or their work schedule. In our classroom, we create an 'open environment', in which we encourage individuality and a "Classroom Family". We lead our discussions with open-ended questions where we all accept others' opinions and think 'outside of the box'.
