In Peter Liljedahl's book, "Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics," he emphasizes the importance of students working in collaborative groups on vertical surfaces. After 15 years of studying classrooms to improve the thinking that goes on in the math classroom, Mr. Liljedahl came to the conclusion that we need to get students up out of their seats and working in small groups on a vertical surface. This simple change has been highly effective in increasing the engagement of every student. Please help me to transform many of the walls in my classroom into vertical non-permanent surfaces with Post-it Dry Erase Whiteboard Film Surface. My goal is to increase the level of thinking and participation in each student and subsequently prepare them for any word problem that they encounter.
