My students attend a rural school in the mid-west. Our school is in a town of about 2300 people with a large surrounding school district. Just over 75% of the students in our district are on free and reduced price lunches. Many live below the poverty level. Despite the obvious disadvantages 90% of the students leaving our school continue on to some kind of post secondary training. The students in my physics class tend to be college bound. The ratio of girls to boys remains slightly higher in the class. My students are bright and good natured. They are on their way to becoming productive citizens. They are eager to learn and are able to internalize concepts more readily if they have real life connections to the content.
