We are a small, rural school with amazing, lovable children. Although my students work hard and have great thoughts, many come from less than ideal circumstances. Reading is a source of healthy escape and comfort. Through a shared read aloud experience, students are able to participate in a positive literature-based community. Great literature also helps students understand empathy and make connections. By helping build schema, fluency, and comprehension, students can be successful in all subjects. My students range in age from 10-12 years old. Many are starting to deal with changes that come with entering middle school and I believe that literature can help these children learn to deal with issues that are common at this time in their lives.
