These supplies will allow students to practice and participate in chess tournaments. Previously students have participated in chess puzzles. The requested supplies will allow a larger group of students to participate in local and state level tournaments. All students are invited to participate, fostering a community of life long learners. Members come to play, learn, teach, and get together with their peers, making new friends. The players will build on their math, writing, reading, and critical thinking skills in a fun and creative environment. Students will learn the process of a chess match, using the timers and score books to record their data. Score books allow the students to revisit a match, learn how and when they made mistakes, and research better moves. Chess score books also improve handwriting skills for all areas of learning. The club will also encourage parent participation, providing a fun and exciting way for families to learn together!
