For students to learn, they must have certain needs met like safety and physiological needs. In upper elementary, as we get closer to middle school, the desks within my classroom become very small for my students. Often times they feel like they are right on top of one another, and it concerns them. I don't want my students to be concerned about personal space when they're trying to learn. These tables would allow each of my students to have their own individual space. I want them to be able to focus on learning instead of focusing on their size. In 4th and 5th grade, collaborative learning is an instructional strategy that the students and I enjoy using. Many times, there is not enough space with 30 desks in the classroom. Often, students are dispersed in the hallway and media center so they can have room to work, making it difficult to facilitate the learning of those groups. Having these tables will help alleviate that issue.
