Students need access to books that are engaging and spark their interest. They also need lots of books to help build their reading stamina. I have asked for books that can fill their book baggies to read on a daily basis that can also travel from school to home to encourage reading. Second grade is a year that students really begin to grow as readers and having books that hold their interest are essential to their growth. Classroom libraries need to be filled with a cornucopia of books to help students trade books out to read as their volume increases. While students have access to a school library, my classroom library needs to be enhanced so my kids can freely go back and forth as they need more books to read.
