We are a 4th grade classroom in Illinois. We have many students that are bilingual and a diverse group of students that have different backgrounds. My class loves to be creative and innovative with the work they do! One of their favorite activities is holding a Socratic Seminar, where students build upon each other's ideas and learn to agree/disagree with each other. We also discuss scenarios that students are familiar with but many students struggle with current events and even more so, understanding our history. Most students aren't aware of the racism that goes on in our world, and have questions that they'd like answered. My students are very eager to help one another and learn from each other. As a teacher, it makes me so happy seeing my kiddos work with each cooperatively because it's an important skill they will need in the future!
