Life, social, and fine motor skills are all necessary for day to day functioning. These skills tend to be more difficult for my students, and therefore they require more modeling and practicing to grasp the skills. In order to help my students be successful in the real world, they need to be taught life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and washing clothes. These are skills my students will need in order to develop independence and be able to live on their own. Not only will they be learning basic skills to help in their future lives, they will also learn reading, math, sequencing, following directions, and teamwork all while developing independence. The materials I'm requesting will help me help them to become more successful individuals in all three of these areas. Fine motor skills are necessary skills to learn to get dressed in the morning, brush your teeth, write your name, make something to eat, and etc. My students will practice their fine motor skills using the bolts, play-doh, and zippers/buttons activity to become more fluent with those skills. The books listed are great ways to teach the students social skills that are and are not acceptable in this crazy world we live in. The books provide not only entertainment but also great modeling and discussions to teach appropriate skills. The majority of the materials listed have to do with cooking in the classroom. The major goal for my students is to one day function on their own which requires them knowing how to provide food for themselves. Hello cooking! I plan to use the materials listed to teach my students how to follow recipes and fend for themselves in order to be independent. Please consider helping me help them!
