For the 2015-2016 school year, I teach 120 Fifth grade students. These students come from a poverty stricken area, with the school having a poverty rate of 83 percent. Many do not have both parents active in the household, while some do not live with either biological parent. The school demographics for the 2015-2016 school year are 36% African-American and 64% Caucasian. I have 20 students that have a medical diagnosis of ADHD and more that are hyperactive without a formal doctor diagnosis.
