They are Burmese, Thai, Chin, Kareni, Hispanic, White, Black, and precious. We have kids from low income families and many are refugees. Some speak English and some do not. They come to learn and I need to provide the fundamentals, like books. I have kids with learning disabilities, emotional disabilities because of what they have seen or have had to deal with at a young age. Some are homeless or just get moved around a lot. They want to do well. None of them want to fail. They hope each year they will find a home in their classroom. Our school is just the place for them. We are the Statue of Liberty in our neighborhood. We feed 3 meals a day to many of them. We provide clothes, shoes, coats and school supplies. We teach their parents to read and help parents to get a GED. Our school is warm, loving and inviting to all in the neighborhood.
