Black student union meets once a week to discuss topics that students find important. Once of the topics that has emerged is the topic of police brutality and advocacy. We are planning a field trip to see the movie "The Hate U Give" and I wanted to give them the opportunity to read and discuss the book that sparked the film. We will be using questions from the Educator's Guide to explore themes such as bravery, family, difficult conversations, and activism in the black community. It is important that my students are well-rounded and understand how education and real life are intertwined.
