Yoga blocks are a great tool for dance students. They support range of motion, thereby shortening the distance between the dancer and the floor (“bringing the floor closer to you”). This helps students feel successful as they begin attempting to work on their flexibility. Yoga blocks also assist in establishing correct alignment, which is key to injury prevention in dancers. Yoga blocks can also help dancers properly engage specific muscles while executing different technical skills. For example, dancers can place a yoga block between their knees as they work on holding their core and keeping their knees properly aligned during plies.
