The school I work at is a school for students with a wide range of disabilities. I currently work with a group of middle school students who just need a little more patience and care than most. They come from many different backgrounds, some of which are very heartbreaking. They all really enjoy being read aloud to and having group discussions. I think it is calming and allows them to go somewhere else for a while. Because of the different ability levels, not all of them enjoy reading independently. I believe that once they find the genre they are most interested in, it will help them through some hard times they may face in or out of the classroom.
