My first year of teaching was a challenge. I thought all kids were supposed to sit at their desk, listen to the teacher, and raise their hand to answer or ask a question. I had a few students that just couldn't do that. They stood up, sprawled on the floor, kneeled in their chairs, and sat in every direction but forward. Crazy thing is, they got their work done in those positions. It took me all year and a million, "Turn around in your seats" later to realize that kids are different than when I was in school. Students can't be expected to sit and get. They are so much more active and hyper than we were 30 years ago. Our schools have to change as our students do. Varied seating, like the Stationary Bike Desk, Sit-to-Stand Desk, and the Exercise Ball Chairs will accommodate the students with excess energy and give them a constructive way to move while learning.
