I teach Kindergarten in an inner city Columbus school. Most of my kids are students who come from a home where English is not their main language. When my kids join me in the Fall they come in with not knowing a whole lot of beginning kindergarten readiness skills. I work with them all year on letters, letter sounds, rhyming, sight words and reading skills. The one thing that I have noticed in the last three years is they all struggle with rhyming skills. I have a few rhyming activities and I make almost all of them. This is one thing I struggle with helping them to master by the end of Kindergarten, These hands on learning centers will reinforce their visual / hands on learning.
