Help support Ms. Lipner and Ms. F Davi's Classroom

The materials that we requested are for our High School Cooking Delight Club. This club was started this year by a coworker, myself and some of our HS senior students. We are in urgent need of the supplies as the club already has 50 members and counting. These requested materials will be essential in providing us with the tools to teach our students cooking and life skills. Our goal is to teach our students basic cooking skills and food preparation skills. Since we are a Title I School, most of our students come from low-income families and have parents that work late hours. They do not often get to enjoy cooked meals nor share them with anyone. We want to teach our students how simple, nutritious and economical it can be to cook and follow basic recipes. We believe that sharing in the experience of food preparation and sharing in a meal are essential parts of life. Since our school is so diverse, we will also incorporate cultural elements in our cooking. We believe that by sharing a table and a meal, we can teach our students how to put aside cultural differences and come together as a community. After each item that we prepare or cook, we sit around a table and share our creations, as well as our experiences as a community. With the help of your donations, some experiences that we have planned include a food drive, helping at a soup kitchen, creating weekly holiday treats, creating a thanksgiving meal, as well as learning to make various types of foods using fresh ingredients (ie: guacamole, ricotta cheese, ice cream, salsa, crepes, etc). .
