Our school was one of several schools in our district to implement flexible seating in our classrooms. We removed all desks and wooden chairs and replaced those with tables, chairs, bookshelves, bean bags, stools, and pillows. We bought theses items at garages sales and flea markets two years ago. We each painted and recovered our own furniture in the rooms. Although we were nervous for such a change, we knew it was a change we needed to try for our students. When the students came to school on the first day, they were amazed and surprised by the many changes tour rooms. They love the fact they have the freedom to choose the seating that is most comfortable to meet their learning style. Now two years later, after much wear and tear, most of our furniture needs to be replaced. The students love the chance to have a bean bag or a pillow to lay on while working.
