My students have grown up in an under-resourced school system in an under-privileged community entering AP Environmental Science (APES) years behind proficiency in science. With only 8 months before students take the APES test, traditional instructional methods simply could not help my students achieve our goal of scoring the first ever 5 on this AP test in the history of CHS. These iPads will allow me to implement blended learning strategies within my classroom to allow for differentiated instruction and personalized learning that will help students catch up and excel in APES! iPads allow for station rotation where students will be able to focus on the specific skills that they need practice with. Additionally, this allows me to provide smaller group instruction to reinforce new concepts while making up for the vast gaps in my students' science education. With your help, my students could gain access to new resources that will help them exceed societal expectations by scoring 5s on the APES test and become college bound scientists! In a school where many students do not have access to textbooks in many of their courses, these iPads will not only help them learn, they will help them feel valued and work harder to achieve academic goals. These students are the ones who have defied the odds of attending an underperforming urban high school and consistently stayed focused on their education, despite trials and tribulations in and outside of the classroom. Success in this course will help these special students internalize the confidence they need to set higher education goals and aspire to get a college education. Please help my students get the resources they greatly deserve and reach heights that none of their peers have previously been able to achieve!
