My students really enjoy glazing their projects in the Ceramics Lab. Glaze is a think layer of glass on the surface of a Ceramic piece. Glaze can add color, personality, meaning, function and strength to a project. Having a variety of glazes students can use allows for more creativity and meaning behind each creation. In the last 10 years, the cost of art materials has increased and as art teachers, we are asked to do more with less. The cost of glazes, clay, and tools has increased while my budget has stayed the same. I am finding that it has become very challenging to order the things that we need in the Ceramics Lab to ensure that each student has just enough supplies to finish out the semester and year.
