The students I teach come from various neighborhoods in inner-city Chicago, some within walking distance of our school, and some with hour-long bus commutes. They are kind, intelligent, driven, and college-minded. Many of them will be of the first generation in their family to attend college. I can see how much they hunger to meet this goal already. I work an awesome school that encourages kids toward college and pushes each student to do his or her best. Though we have the funding for unit novels, our school lacks a library where students can find additional reading resources.
