The books are for guided reading. This will help my students increase their fluency, vocabulary and comprehension as well as practice their decoding skills. A guided reading lesson is where the teacher guides the students with their reading and is an anchor for them if they struggle. It helps them with higher level questioning and it increases more rigorous learning. Student's learn to self assess while they are reading as I guide and scaffold as needed. Although the books are not taken home, all the strategies that we learn and use during a guided reading lesson transfer to home while doing independent reading.
