Sitting and participating in a read aloud, actively listening to a mini-lesson, spreading out to read a good book, working with a partner, and having a space of one's own are all activities that can be done on a classroom rug. A classroom rug will allow my students space to spread out during independent reading time, work on group projects, and give them spots to sit at during mini-lessons and whole group instruction. It will also help promote better focus and concentration during instruction as the students are in close proximity to the teacher when gathered on a comfortable rug.
