I teach seventeen kindergarten students in a Title One rural elementary school. Economically, all students receive free breakfast and lunch, are offered free dental care through organizations that come to school, and are given school supplies, book bags, and coats that have been donated. As teachers, we have to supply everyday materials (paper, paint, crayons, etc.) leaving little to no resources for larger scale learning equipment. Each of my students has a hidden scientist within them that naturally wants to ask questions, and solve the "Magic" that science presents. For most students, Kindergarten is their first exposure to a learning environment and their first opportunity to develop their curiosity and build their character. I want to give my students every opportunity that I would want my own children to have.
