During this global pandemic, students are learning from home, sheltering in place. Home environments can vary dramatically, including how many people students live with, how much physical space is available, and types of environmental noise pollution and/or the amount of noise and activity levels at home, as just a few examples. Now, more than ever, students may need to find that "quiet place" within themselves for inner peace and wellness; students can participate in yoga, meditation, and mindfulness at home and enjoy these beneficial practices that are both healing and restorative. Students can use the yoga mats at home during crisis distance learning. This can address some of their needs for social-emotional self care, and allow me to facilitate lessons and share practices even at a distance. Once we return to in-person instruction, we will use the materials to support social-emotional learning, restorative justice practices, including morning meditation, mindfulness lessons, a calm corner, and community circles.
