My students need electronic balances to conduct inquiry-based labs in our physical science and chemistry classes, such as a conservation of mass lab, labs in which we calculate the density of different metals as well as a gas, stoichiometry labs, and a lab in which we calculate the acceleration due to gravity. Authentic, inquiry-based, hands-on experiences in lab give my students the opportunity to BE scientists in class. Electronic balances give them access to a type of science learning that is proven to be more effective than rote memorization or regurgitation of facts, and of course, way more fun too!
