My students have very little access to digital forms of communication beyond their phones, yet they are going to be expected to effectively write using digital formats, such as research papers, emails, and resumes. Right now, at my high school, 500 plus students across the ELA department have to share 30 Chromebooks in all. That makes it very difficult for my Dual Credit English students to be able to properly learn how to research and present findings, and very difficult for my Business English students to learn how to compose emails and write job proposals, and very difficult for my College Prep English students to actually prepare for college, where few assignments are accepted on notebook paper anymore. This project is asking for five Chromebooks and the educational licenses. It will not make my classroom a one to one environment, but it will help my low socioeconomic students and at risk students a chance to learn how to use the digital devices, beyond a cell phone, to prepare them for college and/or careers.
