My students are second graders aged 7-9. They are a mixed group of boys and girls, from students who can't read or add to those who read on a fourth grade level and grasp math far above second grade level. I have special ed students that attend resource classes and some that are being tested for gifted. Most are from lower middle class homes. Some are living below the poverty level. My classroom population is very similar to our school. The school is located in an affluent area, but students are brought from much poorer areas of our town. Even though 70 % of our students receive free or reduced lunch, we receive no supplemental Title 1 funds to purchase extras needed for my classroom. We strive to raise funds each year with fundraisers, but there never seems to be enough to go around. The purchase of this ipad will be a boost to my classroom.
