My students need school supplies because the majority of them are high poverty students, a title one school, large special need population and 100% receive free lunch. Many of the students live with grandparents and foster homes. Our county has the highest poverty rate in the state. There are no jobs, and crime is rising. Student confidence has made us an at-risk school. For students, school is the only time they are happy. Our school budget is underfunded with teachers receiving little to no money to purchase classroom supplies, equipment, and incentives. These items are very much needed and will be greatly appreciated by the students. Our entire school system is understaffed, while classrooms are overcrowded. There are fewer teachers and more students to a class, which results in a poorer education that eventually hinders students' futures.
