These books will help create our non-fiction classroom library for our new Reader's Workshop program. Reader's Workshop has given our struggling readers the strength and courage, to set and achieve goals which once seemed impossible to obtain. Many of my students lack the ability to access books outside of school, especially non-fiction literature which is rich in academic vocabulary. These books will help expose students to a world outside of their neighborhood community, and allow them to explore important historical events, famous people, and scientific information. Non-fiction books allow students to activate their prior knowledge and expand their critical thinking skills.
