The students in my low level class each come with a story. Every single one of them has something that has happened outside of school which impacts their ability to be successful students. I have many students who speak little to no English, whose parents moved here to give them better educational opportunities. I have students who have one or more parents absent from their life, so they are in charge of taking care of their siblings. Some students are homeless, or don't get along with their parents and aren't allowed back in their homes. Some students have learning disabilities, and my class is their first regular education class. Some don't think they will be able to graduate, or may be the first in their family to do so. Some are simply bad at math. They are all unique, and working with them has been a truly humbling experience. The one thing that unites them is the time they spend in my classroom.
