Not long ago, art had to be briefly cut at our school, but now Springfield High School is excited to again offer art classes. I am in the process of restoring and developing our art program with over 120 students currently enrolled. Art classes are open to everyone from 9th grade through 12th grade. Many students have never taken art previously, and come to class feeling unsure. As we explore the use of various mediums, I enjoy helping each one discover and develop their unique talent. Personal expression through the creation of works of art is a wonderful means to span cultures, academic ability, and economic status. I believe all students can be successful. In addition to producing works of art, the studio is a place for courageous teens to push beyond comfort zones, experience persistence, and develop a positive can-do attitude.
