My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. While we do have some students who come from intact families, most of them come from single-parent homes or live with relatives as their parents are incarcerated. They live in the "projects" around our school, apartments, trailer parks, etc. Their challenging home situations often spill over into the classroom as they come to school hungry, angry, not focused and often not very motivated to learn. Having said that, the teachers who work here have worked here for years because we are dedicated to these students and know that underneath their initial hardened layer are students with big hearts who will benefit immensely from caring adults who can see their potential. There is nothing more satisfying than when our students return from high school and tell us of their successes, which we hope is based on the strong foundation which we laid out in middle school. We believe all of our students are capable of success, no exception.
