My goal for the students is to expose them to computer programming. This will help them with possible career opportunities and show them another real-life application to the mathematics and science that they are learning this year. The goal is for students to be able to successfully program commands for a robot and understand the fundamentals of coding. The students will work in cooperative groups with these robots, and in doing so, this will allow them to use problem-solving skills as well. This activity definitely lends itself nicely to students' use of academic language as well as it provides an environment where students can showcase higher-level thinking, rather than just basic recall.
