I teach in an inner city urban school district. We are a Title 1 school and 95% of the students qualify for free/ reduced meals. The population includes 80% African Americans, 10% Whites, and approximately 10% of the population is from other countries. Our school is a career orientated school. We do our best to include all of our students no matter where they are from or what their skill levels are. Being a special education teacher I assist those students who have special needs to be successful in what career options they choose. I have approximately 75 students that I teach British Literature & Composition and Law. These students have a wide range of learning disabilities, from Learning Disabled to Autism. Our state has just adopted a new set of standards that resemble the Common Core standards. We are currently finding new ways to teach the standards so they master the skills in all subjects.
