My scholars are extraordinary. They are the kinds of scholars who have not only imagined but achieved things in their lives that others have described as "impossible" for them in the past. They are constantly redefining what is possible for them in their relentless drive to grow and succeed. Scholars in my reading intervention classroom come into my class reading far below grade level standards. Some, although not all, have been diagnosed with a reading disability and have never previously described themselves as a reader. They typically read 3+ years behind grade level as 9th graders. However, a powerful tool for change for these scholars is access to books that they understand and that they LOVE. These scholars will leave 9th grade having made tremendous growth in reading given the right materials to succeed.
