I teach in what is considered a high poverty area in Northport, AL. The technology integration that allows my students to learn and be successful comes from what is done at school. We currently serve about 497 students. We are 85% African-American, 13% Hispanic, and 2% White. Our current free/reduced lunch percentage is 94%. Our students starve for technology and as I teacher I would like to integrate it more. iPads can be used as a learning tool because students can learn from apps, conduct research, and create their own learning. iPads can also be used as extrinsic motivation for students. Learning should be fun and exciting and iPads are just that. We have a few iPads school wide, but they are shared among 6 grade levels, 25 classrooms, and 497 students. Having iPads for our class means students have technology at their disposal. The future of our world depends on the education of our students. Educating my students in modern fashion is exactly what each child needs and deserves.
