Being 6 and 7 years old, at times we have some very active learning. As a teacher I have sat in many meetings in hard chairs. About half way through the meeting I start to wiggle, doodle, and tend to not pay attention like I should. I have built my classroom around idles like this. If I do not like to sit in a hard chair, I am sure some or all of my children feel the same. My students have used exercise balls as chairs for the last 5 years. I feel it has really benefited most of my children that can not sit still as well as building their core muscles. In my classroom I try to teach in many ways to reach the different learning styles. We write it for those that need that hands on, sing it, clap it...I have had children come that didn't know how to hold a pencil to children that are reading several grades ahead. You have to be very flexible in teaching and think outside the box!
