My classroom has 13 students that have individual behavioral needs. Most of the students are underprivileged and receive free and/or reduced lunch. They have a lot of academic ability; however, due to many reasons, mainly behaviors, they often go overlooked or are considered the "bad kids" of the school. This is not true. The difference between these students and others - they have not been afforded social lives that teach them the behavioral skills many of us take for granted. They are very lovable, unique students that just need more opportunities. Novel studies help to improve their reading ability; this improves their self-esteem and oftentimes their behavior.
