My students debate their way to college! I teach a speech and debate course and coach the speech and debate team. The team is made up of 9th - 12th grade students, many from low- to middle-income families. peech and Debate, a college-preperatory class, requires students to perform plenty of research. Currently, our classroom does not have a student computer. It is important for our team members to work collaboratively and the current set-up forces them to do all of their work outside . With 92 students on the team, and only one computer, students can go quite a while before getting their turn to work in class. Having HP Netbooks would allow more students access to the Internet during class and at tournaments, providing more opportunity to perform research and to succeed.
