My Learning Support classroom consists of 12 students in grades 1-3. The success of these struggling students is dependent on direct and systematic instruction, with an emphasis of individual learning styles and needs. These children come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Because of their learning differences, many of these students cope daily with stress, anxiety, and sometimes feelings of failure. As not only their teacher, but their advocate, it is my goal to instill a lifelong love of learning. I feel strongly that learning cannot occur without love. I strive to create a classroom environment that is welcoming, positive, and free of judgment. As a first year teacher, my classroom library is limited. There is nothing that brings me more joy, than seeing students faces light up, when I purchase new books. Literature has helped develop the students' language skills, enhanced their social skills, and contributed to a deeper understanding of the world around them.
