My students are in 2nd – 5th grades. There is an even number of boys and girls; 68% are white, 20% are African-American and 12% are multi-racial. The majority of their families are made up of single parents and other relatives with low-socioeconomic status. Most live in inner-city and are in walking distance to our school. Our building is 100 years old but has been maintain. It is the heart of the community where the focus is on the child. The school has Pre-K – 5th grades. With the community and grant assistances students are provided three meals a day, weekly snack bags and weekend food bags. The 3rd meal is offered at the end of the after school program. We focus on all elements to assist our students: nutrition, academic, physical, emotional and mental. Our school is a Trauma Informed School where students can receive services while at school. The school building is the heart of our community.
