Our class is unique. They represent many continents, cultures, and experiences. For fourth graders, they have significant perspectives on the world given that many of them are from immigrant families or are immigrants themselves. Sharing experiences opens other students to worlds of naan, jerk chicken, going to mosque, eating homemade ravioli, and speaking Mandarin. These cultural perspectives are ones that cannot be explicitly taught. They are taught through the sharing of experiences which is something my class LOVES to do. Our class loves a challenge and is willing to persevere. Though many students are identified as needing reading assistance or are English Language Learners, when presented with a "class challenge" everyone is willing to give it a try. From class yoga to trying to create a circuit, they are all in. Our class and school are welcoming. Anyone who is new has a place here especially within our classroom. We celebrate differences every day.
