My students live in single parent homes with a parent or guardian who may or may not have a high school education. The school is graded as a Title I school based on the level of students living poverty. I teach business, marketing and entrepreneurship to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. As I teach them about designing flyers for marketing or creating a resume, I want them to see the fruits of their labor in print by having their project printed out so they can display their work and not just on the monitors for me to grade. If we had a laminator their projects could be laminated for display using the laminating pouches. I implemented Thursday as "future entrepreneur" day in my classroom. When a student dresses out he/she is rewarded with "queen cash bucks," which can be redeemed for items I have purchased for the treasure box. Having healthy snacks to reward instead of candy would be a wonderful addition to our program.
