Our students are from a very low socioeconomic area. They are unable to buy or bring snack food to school to eat during snack time. I often see that they are very hungry every morning and I feed them breakfast snacks and cereal. Many of them are also very hungry every Monday because some of them have not had enough food over the weekends, especially at the end of each month when food aid money is used up. I pack small sandwich bags full of healthy snacks for them to take home. I also secretly put snacks in their backpacks so they are not embarrassed at school and do not have go hungry. I am asking for your help to help me provide needed supplies and food for my children. This is an incentive program for PBIS- Positive Behavior Support These are essential incentives that Detroit Public Schools do not provide the funding for, becoming a burden on the teachers and staff to pitch in to purchase these items.
